----------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) How many students will be in my class?
What is the maximum number you are happy with? 6, 8, 10? These are the average numbers of students we have in each class, so as to ensure productive acquisition & healthy teacher-students relationships.
2) Does the institute have a library?
Studying outside classroom settings is as important as studying inside classroom settings; and our institute provides students with such a chance. Hence, our institute is equipped with a rather small library, but includes English books for a variety of levels, ages & interests.
3) Do the students need to buy the book(s) themselves?
The students are required to pay for their coursebook(s), which are pre-ordered and provided to students by the institute timely and in perfect condition. In case of damage, or loss of books, the institute does not have any responsibility, but to provide the student(s) with new ones, and charge him/her for these books.
4) Are there special prices for families of more than 3 children?
For families with more than 3 children, the 4th child will be entitled to study at our Institute absolutely free.
5) Can a student register at your Institute only for Composition classes?
Of course you are allowed to register only for Composition classes for a very small amount (Levels Preliminary/A’Senior+).
6) Is there a waiting area for students?
The Institute has cared for convenience for both students & parents, by having a reception and waiting area, where students can wait before or after class time to be picked by their parents, hence no worry about safety. However, the institute will not have any responsibility in case a student leaves the classroom or waiting area, except if that happens in the middle of their classtime.
7) Do you offer a Transportation Service for students from & to the Institute?
Such a transportation service has not yet been set, but may operate in the future according to demand. However, transportation should not be a problem for you the parents, due to our convenient, central location (See Question number 8 below, or for map (click here).
8) Where is the Institute located?
In choosing an English Language Institute for you or your children, a convenient location is indeed essential. Our Institute is located in the heart of Paphos, near the new Post-office & beside Andreas Petrides clinic. The address is: 8A Vasileos Constandinou 8021 (For map click here).
9) Can a student enrol in the middle of the school year?
This is of course acceptable, as long as there are vacant places in class (which is the main reason why registrations take place quite early annually, in May-June). Nevertheless, parents should be aware that not attending the initial lessons may impede language acquisition.
10) How long does the school year last?
Classes start in the beginning of September and finish in the end of June (when exams take place). This does not apply for English-speaking-students who learn Greek in July and August, students who have arranged for extra lessons, and for adults (especially students of the level IELTS).
11) Do students have to attend lessons on bank holidays?
Of course not. Such days include Νational celebrations, Christmas & Easter holidays. The students will be informed accordingly and timely.
12) How can I be informed for my child’s progress?
Our institute informs parents of their children’s progress by providing them with progress reports three times a year (there are three semesters). Moreover, the child’s teacher keeps in touch with all parents, via telephone or personal contact as often as possible; and it is strongly suggested that parents pursue such a frequent contact with the teacher themselves. Remember! You need to contact one teacher, while a teacher is to contact all her students’ parents.
13) What are your teaching methods?
Our institute is not limited to the classic board and books’ use in class. The teaching & learning methods involve the use of Flashcards, CDroms & library readers, CD & cassette player, as well as a TV set and video, through which students are taught accordingly and most importantly, pleasantly. Please bear in mind! Songs, Drawings & Games, which take place with some of the students, are not a waste of time. Everything that takes place within classroom settings always has an educational purpose.
14) If a student does not pass his/her final exam, does he/she have to repeat the whole year?
This is not to happen essentially, unless it is judged that the student has important weaknesses, which can impede his/her language acquisition even more, if transferred to a higher level-class; and still, this is to be decided by both parents and the child’s teacher.
15) Are exams obligatory?
Final end-of-year exams are not obligatory, but are strongly recommended at all levels provided, since they constitute a priceless experience and of course a reward for all together, parents, teachers and especially students themselves. What other kind of motivation would you need for your child then, to move on?
16) Is it obligatory for students (of levels A’Senior/Preliminary/PET and above,) to have Composition classes, too?
For students in our institute yes, it is, since in this way, we can provide a better guarantee of good results in the final exams and less weaknesses in their knowledge of the English Language.
17) When & where do exams take place?
Exams take place at the end of the School year at a State school in Paphos in the end of June, apart from the GCE exam which can be taken twice in a year, again at a State school in Paphos. Another exception is the IELTS exam, which takes place twice a month in Nicosia.
18) What kind of exams are taken by students?
Our institute prepares students for Anglia & Cambridge exams at all levels from level A’Junior (YLE) to GCE, TOEFL, IGCSE, IELTS & CPE Proficiency. The Pre-Junior level does not involve an exam to be taken (For further information, including monthly fees click here).
19) In case my child does not show the necessary progress in class, what can be done about it?
In this case, the child’s teacher can provide him/her with extra amplifying lessons once a week, usually in the weekends, parallel to his/her normal lessons in the middle of the week, until it is judged that he/she has no significant difficulties and can keep up with the rest of the students in his/her class. The results are guaranteed as long as the student is cooperative. The student will be charged ₤10 per extra lesson.
20) What about the fees for individual English lessons & when should they be paid?
The fees for individual English lessons are pre-paid on a monthly basis. (In case of absence of the pupil in one or more lessons, no amount will be deducted from the monthly fees.)
21) Can a pupils register at your institute only for the BELT computerized lessons?
You may register only for the BELTS lessons, but if you do register for the rest of the classes, bear in mind that the BELT lessons are free of charge for you, while you are charged a small fee otherwise (from Starters/Pre-Junior 2 & upwards).
22) Are there any further discounts on the monthly fees?
We’re afraid we cannot do any further discounts for whichever reason. Do bear in mind ‘though, that annual “scholarships” (one year free English studies) are given to the best pupils of the year before.
23) Are all the pupils taught by the main teacher and owner of the institute?
Clearly, the main teacher cannot teach all the pupils every year (especially all the younger ones). She is already teaching groups of almost all levels, until 8:35 daily, to please as many pupils as possible. You should also take into consideration that other young, capable English language graduates are being employed at our institute and are characterized by authentic interest and love towards our pupils. Still, if you happen to be disappointed for any reason, with any of our stuff, please do inform immediately the owner of the institute; ‘cause there is always a solution to any problem.
24) Why should parents/pupils trust other teachers, apart from the owner? (Cynthia Petridou);
There are many reasons why this should not be a problem for you:
a. The programme and daily materials, as well as the teaching methods, are determined by the main teacher, owner of the institute, so that we continue to have the excellent results we have had until now.
b. Any of the teachers employed are trained by the main teacher in advance, to ensure that our teaching duties will be served accordingly.
c. In this way, it is more convenient for parents who bring to us more than 1 child, since all their children can finish classes simultaneously and avoid any such inconvenience.
d. In case that the main teacher is not able to teach your child for this year, after careful planning, be sure that we will arrange the child is taught by her the following year.
e. The teachers employed have graduated from English universitie
25) What happens if the teacher, or a pupil disagrees with the grade he was awarded in the final exams?
There are 2 things which can be done:
(a) the pupil is charged a small amount and a copy of the exam paper is sent &
(b) a request for re-grading the exam paper by a another examiner is made. In case that the grade is altered, the pupil is not charged anything. If however, it remains the same, the pupils is charged. Mistaken sometimes happen, thus we recommend we do so accordingly.
26) Is there the possibility of doing private lessons at someone's home, or only at the institute?
Unfortunately, we are not in the position to provide the service of doing private lessons at anybody's home, simply due to the fact that we have all the necessary materials, as well as equipment at the institute itself; and thus, we carry out our lessons more professionally, and clearly to the learners' benefit.
